The FKG Group was engaged by the Department of Housing and Public Works on behalf of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General to upgrade the Townsville Courthouse, which supported the expansion of the Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Court.
The project scope required the team to commence with the demolition and refurbishment of Level A of the Magistrates Court Building, to create a new Registry Service Area and open plan work space. This included the renewal of existing communication, security, electrical and hydraulic services.
Working in an operational environment, the team completed staged works on Level B, which included the construction of a specialised Domestic and Family Violence Court, with cutting-edge audio-visual equipment to support the Court’s function. The team also constructed safe areas, staff areas, interview rooms, security corridor and foyer refurbishment, new waiting spaces, interview rooms, public and staff amenities, back of house workspaces and the refurbishment of the Magistrates Chambers.
