The FKG Group was engaged to design and construct a United Petrol Station and Taco Bell retail store including all associated demolition and civil works. Works were conducted in a surrounding operational retail centre.
Acid sulphate contamination was identified in the soil. More Geotech testing was initiated, with all works to ground halted. Through utilisation of FKG’s CEHSMP and ASS Management Plan, we managed both treatment of hazardous materials onsite and deported over 7,000m3 of hazardous material without any environmental breaches or issues.
The worksite was also littered with unknown in-ground services. FKG worked with the client to re-design the project to work in, where possible, with the existing and latent services. FKG re-designing part of the project to fit the existing services saved a substantial amount of time on the project – as fitting in with the existing services was a more efficient construction method.
