The FKG Group have been engaged by Queensland Health and Cairns and Hinterland Hospital Health Services for the staged redevelopment of Atherton Hospital.
The staged project, includes a new Community, Allied and Mental Health Building, a new four-storey purpose-built Clinical Services Building, and a new Engineering Services Building, along with demolition and refurbishment works.
Stage 1 – the Community, Allied and Mental Health Building a new Helipad, and new internal roadways and carparking for staff has been completed and handed over to the client. The new building will house many services including an immunisation clinic, wound care, physiotherapy in a contemporary rehabilitation gym, speech therapy, a parents’ room for new mothers to assist with breastfeeding and a sleep and settle room.
Given the operational site, robust planning and communication strategies have been implemented to ensure hospital staff and stakeholders are fully informed of all works and temporary relocations.
Stage 2 followed by refurbishment works is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
