The FKG Group was engaged by the Department of Education for the design and construction of a new State Primary School and Special School. Both schools consist of one and two storey blocks linked with covered walkways.
The works were performed in the rainy Sunshine Coast area. To mitigate potential delays due to wet weather, the team installed HDPE composite geotextile with a geomembane under every temporary and permanent access road to create an all-weather access route around the site. This minimised downtime during wet periods.
The Developer for the area had not completed a service road to the school in time, meaning by October 2020, we were unable to perform service connections (as programmed) as there were no services installed to connect to. FKG worked closely with the client to find an alternative solution to this, taking three months of redesign and changes to overcome the obstacle. Our design team redesigned the access road and changed the flow of the school from North to South. The service road for the school was changed to the main entry, which required new approvals from council including water, power, and comms.
